Beautiful and risk taking performance work by Saffy Setohy.
I was invited by Saffy to create this work with my son Jake Taylor Bruce and sound artist Nick Janaway, film maker Charlotte Jackman – Bloom and dramaturg Alicia Grace.
It was a very special experience to work with my son with the thoughtful and talented direction of Saffy and creative scoring from Nick.
The work toured to:Liskerrett Community Centre, Grampound Village Hall, Looe school, Chisenhale Dance Space, The Nightingale Theatre Brighton, Calstock Arts Centre
Feedback
” I was surprised by the strength of my personal response. I was acutely aware of my own memories of my mother and our relationship. It made me wonder that if we had dance as a common language whether we could have said those things to each other; and though we had other forms of language, did we say them and feel them anyway? So there was, and still is, a big rush of feeling from last night. And some of it is quite uncomfortable as well as one is not used to seeing a mature man dancing intimately and sensually with his mother. I thought you both explored that tenderness and intimacy incredibly well, along with the duality of the pain and the freedom of separation.” Audience member.
